Can anyone learn to play guitar? Yes, anyone can learn the guitar, however, everyone progresses at a different pace. I have students that will walk in the door knowing nothing, and leave playing a song by the end of the first lesson. For some, it will take more time, but eventually, everyone can get it. I listen to all types of music, and want to learn it all! Can you teach me? Well, lets see: I've performed in (or am currently performing in) rock bands, country bands, jazz bands, R & B bands, metal bands, prog rock bands, church groups, folk bands, and anything else you can think of! After any performance, or session work in any genre, I ALWAYS get a call back. I am proficient in multiple techniques and genres. A lot of my students are in fact musicians who are in bands that I have played with, that want to brush up on their chops in whichever musical style they are in! Whether you want to learn country or metal, you won't be disappointed. I've been playing for years, and have come to a stand still. What can you do to help? Ah. Don't worry. This happens a lot! I have a unique ability to find exactly what is causing that "stand still," and can easily help you work passed it. Sometimes it's something as simple as "try hold your guitar this way," or "maybe if you switched picks.." There hasn't been a student yet who I haven't been able to get passed that "wall!" I want to shred!! No problem. Bring your Yngwie, Vai, and Petrucci CD's, and we'll play so fast the crowd with get vertigo! I want to play nice, bluesy, "tasteful" licks, not necessarily blistering fast. No problem. We'll pull up some Clapton, SRV, and B.B., and make our guitars gently weep. How often should I practice? It depends: how good do you want to be? Should I take a half hour lesson, or go for the full hour? After your first lesson, we'll decide together what is best for you. Sometimes the full hour is unnecessary for someone just starting off, but then again, it may be exactly what you need. We will make the decision together. Everyone tells me "you need to learn to read music," is that true? WARNING: Music majors MAY want to stop reading this... No. It's not true. In fact there are PLENTY of guitar player s who can't, like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Zakk Wylde, Paul Gilbert, Clapton, George Harrison, Eddie Van Halen, Slash, Ritchie Sambora, and the Edge, to name a few.... However, if that's something you're interested in, you're in luck, because I am one of the few who can. What type of course do you use when teaching? Everyone is unique. Individuals vary in musical taste, playing style, and learning ability, which is why each student will have a learning experience specifically designed for them to propel them in the direction which they desire! You may learn overnight, you may learn in a month. Whatever the case, consistency is the key. Should I start on an acoustic guitar, or an electric guitar? Do you want to play Dave Matthews? Then start on an acoustic. If you want to learn Guns and Roses, then go buy a Les Paul, and a Marshall. It really doesn't matter which one you start with. It's easy to transition to either. How much are lessons? Lessons vary in price depending on the length of time and frequency of which you want to study. Feel free to contact me via email for rates, and to set up your first lesson. Where are you located? I have two locations convenient to Baltimore. Studio A is located right outside of White Marsh, just off of the Baltimore Beltway, exit 32. Studio B is located in Baltimore City, off of Caton Ave. Click here for detailed directions. Will playing guitar really help me get a girlfriend? Playing? HA! Just carry one around! |
